B. Styleguides
We are following generic guidelines, to increase the readability of our all pages and articles.
General Guidelines
- Your Profile must be made with 9Mood, sign up here. It should have your original name, a bio (optional), and a picture of you.
- Your article must have a title and a subtitle.
- Please remove all personal calls to action in your post such as “Subscribe my newsletter”, “Subscribe us on Youtube” or “follow me on Twitter.”
- If you include code snippets, use GitHub gists or <code/> tag, paste the URL of the gist into your post, and press enter. It will fetch your Link Preview and render the code as part of your post and include syntax highlighting if your gist is named with the correct file extension (
.css
,.js
,.java
, etc.). - Please add a nice cover image that you have the right to use or are Creative Commons. We recommend sites like Unsplash. Please give the photographer credit and attribution in the caption. See the top of this post for an example.
- Please include a Resources section with any links that you mentioned in your post for quick reference by the reader at the bottom of your article. GitHub repository, Stackblitz, JSFiddles, and gists are highly recommended. Also, link the reference or citation for your content.
- Make sure the article read time is longer than two minutes.
Technical Writing Guidelines
1- Decorate your titles and Subtitles
- Please make sure your article has a title and a subtitle.
- We follow the AP style for title capitalization. In title-case, all major words are capitalized, while minor words are lowercase. Title Case Converter is a helpful tool if you’re not sure.
- In your subtitle, use sentence-case; this means capitalize it like you would any other sentence (like this one!). Only capitalize the first letter of the first word unless the subsequent word is a proper noun such as a name of a language, person, organization, library, etc.
- Verbs in titles should be direct (e.g. “Create a JavaScript Library and Publish it to NPM” vs. “Creating a JavaScript Library and Publishing it to NPM”). Leave the “ing” off, please.
2- Manage case for “How to”
- “How to” should be formatted with a lowercase “t”.
- If your title includes “How to,” there is no need for a question mark at the end (e.g. “How to Include an External Library in Your Java Code?”). Don’t add a question mark at the end, it will be bad for SEO.
3- Manage attractive Header Image with proper citation
- Clickbait Images will never work.
- Make sure that your piece has a header image with proper credit. Sites like Unsplash are great places to find free-to-use images. They make it easy to cite your source, too.
- Please don’t use offensive or shocking imagery such as people screaming, clowns, blood, violations, or other images that a reasonable person might not want to look at.
- Try to steer clear of cover images that are too obvious. If your piece is about building a Bitcoin wallet, consider avoiding images of billfold wallets or if your piece is about Angular component Hooks, avoid header images with fishing hooks. Or if your piece is about Docker, try to avoid images of shipping containers.
- Always cite your images unless the image is so common that it’s basically public domain.
4- Plagiarism Risks
- BeingCoders is not responsible for bearing any copyright issues. We respect intellectual properties and CC-Rights. Copying and pasting someone else’s work and passing it off as your own, without citing them as the source, is theft. We cannot tolerate any plagiarism.
